Shady Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pasco County in the US state of Florida with 11,523 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Shady Hills is about 35 km west of Dade City and about 50 km north of Tampa . US Highway 19 and Florida State Roads 52 and 589 ( Suncoast Parkway , toll road) cross or touch the CDP .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 11,523 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 4,846 households. The population density was 170.0 inh / km². 95.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.7% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 1.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.5% to several ethnic groups. 6.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 29.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 32.0% of all households. 72.6% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.01.

23.5% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 18.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 33.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 24.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 45 years. 50.2% of the population were male and 49.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 36,724, with 20.9% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 94.57% of the population, 4.94% spoke Spanish and 0.49% spoke Arabic .
