Aripeka is a census-designated place (CDP) in the counties Hernando and Pasco in the US state Florida with 308 inhabitants (status: 2010).

geography

Aripeka is located on the Gulf of Mexico , about 30 km southwest of Brooksville and about 60 km north of Tampa . The CDP is crossed by County Road 595, which meets US Highway 19 north and south of the town .

history

The name of the place is a once living here leader of the Indian tribe of Mikasuki back of Aripeka was called. In 1873 a first settlement named Gulf Key was built on the site of Aripeka . In 1883 the first post office was built under this name, but between 1886 and 1892 it was called Argo . With the establishment of Pasco County on June 2, 1887, the place was divided into two counties . In 1896 the first post office called Aripeka was opened and the previous branch was closed a year later. In 1921, the branch previously located in Hernando County was moved to the southern side of the border. In 1947 the place was connected to the electricity network and in 1950 to the telephone network. In 1962 the previous post office was replaced by a new building.

In 1885 the place had "about 32" inhabitants and in 1918 50 inhabitants were counted.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 308 inhabitants were distributed over 337 households. The population density was 61.6 inh / km². 90.6% of the population identified themselves as white , 0.3% as African-American , 0.3% as Native American and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 1.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 5.8% to several ethnic groups. 5.2% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 28.9% of all households lived in 18.8% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 53.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.07 people and the average family size was 2.58 people.

17.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 28.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 48.4% of the population were male and 51.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 63,949 with no one living below the poverty line.
