Zephyrhills is a city in Pasco County in the US state of Florida with 13,288 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Zephyrhills is located approximately 10 km south of Dade City and approximately 35 km northeast of Tampa .
history
In 1886, the Tropical Florida Railroad , a subsidiary of the Florida Railroad , opened a railway line from Ocala via Zephyrhills to Plant City . The railway line was extended to Tampa in 1890 .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 13,288 inhabitants were distributed over 8,300 households. The population density was 820.2 inh / km². 88.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 4.9% as African-Americans , 0.2% as Indians and 1.4% as Asian Americans . 2.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 10.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 42.1% of all households lived in 24.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.0% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.18 people and the average family size was 2.71 people.
20.7% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 20.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 35.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 48 years. 46.3% of the population were male and 53.7% were female.
The median annual income was $ 35,819, with 17.8% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 94.14% of the population, 4.95% spoke Spanish and 0.91% had another mother tongue.

The Capt. Harold B. Jeffries House and the Zephyrhills Downtown Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Florida State Road 54 joins US Highway 301 from the west in Zephyrhills . The nearest airport is Tampa International Airport (around 50 km southwest).

The crime rate in 2010 was 494 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There was one murder, four rapes, 23 robberies, 37 assaults, 232 break-ins, 688 thefts and 23 car thefts.
