The Pasco County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Dade City .
history
The Pasco County was formed on June 2, 1887 from parts of Hernando County. It was named after Samuel Pasco , who was a member of the US Senate from 1887 to 1899.
The historic Samuel Baker House is located in Elfers .
geography
The county has an area of 2248 square kilometers, of which 319 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Hernando County , Sumter County , Polk County , Hillsborough County, and Pinellas County . Together with Hernando, Hillsborough, and Pinellas Counties, the county forms the Tampa Bay Area metropolitan area .

As of the 2010 census , Pasco County had 464,697 people in 228,583 households. The population density was 240.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 88.2% white, 4.5% African American , 0.4% Indian and 2.1% Asian Americans . 2.7% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% of various ethnic groups. 11.7% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.8% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 35.8% of all households. 67.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.90.
23.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 44 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.
The median income for a household in the 43,787 USD , while 13.7% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 86.85% of the population, 8.27% spoke Spanish and 4.88% had another mother tongue.
