The Columbia County is a county in the US state of Florida . The county seat is Lake City .
history
Columbia County was formed on February 4, 1832 from parts of Alachua County and named after Christopher Columbus .
geography
The county is located in north Florida, borders Georgia and has an area of 2075 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Baker County , Union County , Alachua County , Gilchrist County , Suwannee County, and Hamilton County .

As of the 2010 census , Columbia County had 67,531 people in 28,636 households. The population density was 32.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 77.9% white, 17.5% African American , 0.5% Indian and 0.9% Asian Americans . 1.3% were members of other races and 1.9% of different races. 4.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 32.5% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 29.8% of all households. 68.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.00.
25.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 51.8% of the population were male and 48.2% were female.
The median income for a household in the 37,534 USD , while 19.7% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 94.21% of the population, 3.96% spoke Spanish and 1.83% had another mother tongue.
