The county covers an area of ​​777 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Duval County , Clay County , Alachua County , Union County, and Baker County .

history

The county was formed on December 21, 1858 as "New River County" from parts of Columbia County and renamed Bradford County on December 6, 1861. It was named after the Confederate Captain Richard Bradford, who fought in the American Civil War and fell in the battle on "Santa Rosa Island".

After the census in 2010 28520 people lived in Bradford County in 11,011 households. The population density was 37.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 76.4% white, 20.4% African American , 0.3% Native American and 0.5% Asian Americans . 0.7% were members of other races and 1.6% of different races. 3.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 31.8% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 30.4% of all households. 69.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.53 people and the average family size was 2.99 people.

21.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 56.1% of the population were male and 43.9% were female.

The median income for a household in the 39,082 USD , while 20.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2010, English was the first language of 96.95% of the population, 2.11% spoke Spanish and 0.94% had another mother tongue.
