The Hamilton County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Jasper .

history

Hamilton County was formed in 1827 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named after Alexander Hamilton , the first US Secretary of State for the Treasury.

The county has an area of 1,345 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Columbia County , Suwannee County, and Madison County .

Ethnically, the population was composed of 59.8% white, 34.5% African American , 0.6% Native American and 0.5% Asian Americans . 2.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.7% of various ethnic groups. 8.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
