The Flagler County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Bunnell .

history

Flagler County was formed on April 28, 1917 from parts of St. Johns County. It was named after Henry Morrison Flagler , a railway pioneer, owner of a railway company and builder of the railway line on Florida's east coast ( Florida East Coast Railway ).

The county has an area of ​​1,478 square kilometers, of which 222 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Volusia County , Putnam County, and St. Johns County . Together with Volusia County, the county forms the metropolitan area of ​​Deltona – Daytona Beach – Ormond Beach .

According to the 2010 census , Flagler County had 95,696 people in 48,595 households. The population density was 76.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 82.3% white, 11.4% African American , 0.3% American Indian and 2.1% Asian Americans . 1.7% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.3% of various ethnic groups. 8.6% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 26.5% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 40.9% of all households. 71.1% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.42 people and the average family size was 2.82 people.

22.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 32.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 48 years. 48.1% of the population were male and 51.9% were female.

The median income for a household in the 48,134 USD , while 14.4% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 85.04% of the population, 5.83% spoke Spanish and 9.13% had another mother tongue.
