The Pinellas County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Clearwater . The largest city is St. Petersburg .
history
Pinellas County was formed on May 23, 1911 from parts of Hillsborough County . The entire Pinellas peninsula, which separates Tampa Bay from the Gulf of Mexico , as well as a small part of the mainland belong to the county.
geography
The county has an area of 1574 square kilometers, of which 849 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Pasco County , Hillsborough County, and Manatee County . Together with Hernando , Hillsborough, and Pasco Counties , the county forms the Tampa Bay Area metropolitan area .

According to the 2010 census , Pinellas County had 916,542 people in 503,181 households. The population density was 1264.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 82.1% white, 10.3% African American , 0.3% American Indian and 3.0% Asian Americans . 2.1% were members of other races and 2.2% of different races. 8.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 33.9% of all households lived in 22.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 56.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.16 people and the average family size was 2.79 people.
19.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 28.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 48.0% of the population were male and 52.0% were female.
The median income for a household in the 46,051 USD , while 13.1% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 87.17% of the population, 5.56% spoke Spanish and 7.27% had another mother tongue.
