The Madison County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Madison .
history
Madison County was formed on December 26, 1827. It was named after James Madison , the 4th President of the United States. His tenure was from 1809 to 1817.
The county was a Dry Counties until August 28, 2012 , which means the sale of alcohol was restricted or prohibited.

The county covers an area of 1,854 square kilometers, of which 62 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hamilton County , Suwannee County , Lafayette County , Taylor County, and Jefferson County .

According to the 2010 census , Madison County had 19,224 people in 8,457 households. The population density was 10.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. Racially, the population was composed of 57.6% white, 38.8% African American , 0.5% American Indian and 0.2% Asian Americans . 1.6% were members of other races and 1.3% of different races. 4.7% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 31.0% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 30.8% of all households. 68.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.48 people and the average family size was 3.00 people.
24.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 25.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 52.2% of the population were male and 47.5% were female.
The median income for a household in the 34,361 USD , while 21.6% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 93.63% of the population, 4.77% spoke Spanish and 1.60% had another mother tongue.
