Treasure Island is a city in Pinellas County in the US state of Florida with 6,705 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Treasure Island is located on a barrier island off the Gulf coast of Florida and borders directly on the cities of Saint Petersburg , St. Pete Beach and Madeira Beach . The city is about 15 km south of Clearwater and about 35 km southwest of Tampa .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,705 inhabitants were distributed over 5846 households. The population density was 1635.4 inh / km². 96.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.8% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 0.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 3.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 37.4% of all households lived in 10.0% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 47.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.76 people and the average family size was 2.36 people.

9.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 12.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 35.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 41.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 56 years. 49.8% of the population were male and 50.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 57,850, with 11.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.81% of the population, 2.31% spoke Spanish and 2.88% had another mother tongue.

The crime rate in 2010 was 205 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were two rapes, three robberies, seven assaults, 37 break-ins, 242 thefts and four car thefts.
