Lealman is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pinellas County in the US state of Florida with 19,879 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Lealman is directly adjacent to the cities of Pinellas Park and Saint Petersburg . The CDP is located approximately 10 km south of Clearwater and approximately 20 km southwest of Tampa . The CDP is crossed by Interstate 275 and US Highway 19 .

history

The Orange Belt Railway, completed in 1888, once ran through Lealman from Sanford to Saint Petersburg . After several takeovers, the line was shut down when the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad was founded in 1967.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 19,879 inhabitants were distributed over 10,598 households. The population density was 1911.4 inh / km². 78.6% of the population identified themselves as white, 8.5% as African-American , 0.5% as Native American and 6.9% as Asian Americans . 2.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.8% to several ethnic groups. 9.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 29.8% of all households lived in 24.3% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 51.8% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.21 people and the average family size was 2.89 people.

21.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 24.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 44 years. 49.7% of the population were male and 50.3% were female.

The median annual income was $ 30,536, with 26.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 88.51% of the population, 5.53% spoke Spanish and 5.96% had another mother tongue.
