Strong is a city and also the county seat of Bradford County in the US state of Florida with 5449 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Starke is about 50 km southwest of Jacksonville .
history
The railroad age in today's Starke began in 1858 with the construction of the Florida Railroad from Fernandina here. The following year the line was extended to Gainesville and in 1861 to Cedar Key . The first 1860 census recorded 138 residents, half of whom immigrated from Georgia and South Carolina . In 1861 Starke was raised to the county seat of the newly formed Bradford County .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 5449 inhabitants were distributed over 2492 households. The population density was 291.4 inh / km². 65.8% of the population identified themselves as whites , 29.2% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.1% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.6% to several ethnic groups. 3.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 32.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 30.4% of all households. 63.2% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.47 people and the average family size was 3.08 people.
26.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 24.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 39 years. 46.7% of the population were male and 53.3% were female.
The median annual income was $ 27,026, with 33.6% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 98.65% of the population and 1.35% spoke Spanish .

The Call Street Historic District , the Old Bradford County Courthouse, and the Woman's Club of Starke are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Starke is crossed by US Highway 301 ( SR 200 ) and Florida State Roads 16 , 100 and 230 . The nearest airport is Gainesville Regional Airport (around 30 km southwest).

The crime rate in 2010 was 250 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were five robberies, 14 personal injuries, 23 break-ins, 215 thefts and five car thefts.
