San Antonio is a city in Pasco County in the US state Florida with 1138 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

San Antonio borders directly on St. Leo to the east and is approximately 5 km west of Dade City and approximately 40 km north of Tampa .

history

The place was founded in 1881 and named after Saint Anthony of Padua . In 1889 the monastery of Saint Leo Abbey and associated with it the private university of St. Leo was founded. In 1891 the monastery and university came to the newly founded Town of St. Leo .

The Orange Belt Railway, completed in 1888, once ran through San Antonio from Sanford to Saint Petersburg . After several takeovers, the line was shut down when the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad was founded in 1967.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 1138 inhabitants were distributed over 472 households. The population density was 355.6 inh / km². 96.5% of the population identified themselves as whites, 1.1% as African American and 0.4% as Asian Americans . 1.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.0% to several ethnic groups. 6.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010, children under the age of 18 lived in 33.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 18.1% of all households. 68.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.57 people and the average family size was 3.04 people.

26.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 48.9% of the population were male and 51.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 61,923, with 6.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 91.96% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 8.04%.
