Hernando Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hernando County in the US state of Florida with a population of 2,299 (as of 2010).

Hernando Beach is located on the Gulf of Mexico , around 25 km southwest of Brooksville and around 70 km north of Tampa .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 2299 inhabitants were distributed over 1451 households. The population density was 227.6 inh / km². 97.0% of the population identified themselves as white, 0.7% as African-American , 0.4% as Native American and 0.4% as Asian Americans . 0.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.7% to several ethnic groups. 4.3% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 42.4% of all households lived in 17.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 68.8% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.16 people and the average family size was 2.55 people.

14.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 12.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 33.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 39.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 55 years. 49.6% of the population were male and 50.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 52,177, with 5.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 97.32% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 2.68%.
