White County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Monticello .

The county is located in central northwest Indiana and has an area of ​​1,318 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Pulaski County , Cass County , Carroll County , Tippecanoe County , Benton County, and Jasper County .

history

White County was formed on February 1, 1834 from parts of Carroll County. It was named after Isaac White , a colonel and hero, killed in the Battle of Tippecanoe .

As of the 2000 census , White County had 25,267 people in 9,727 households and 7,090 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer.
