Fayette County is a county in the US state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Connersville .

The county is located in southeast Indiana, about 40 km to the east from Ohio and has an area of ​​557 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Henry County , Wayne County , Union County , Franklin County, and Rush County .

history

Fayette County was formed on December 28, 1818 from parts of Franklin County and Wayne County. It was named after Marie-Joseph Motier, Marquis de La Fayette , a general in the American War of Independence .

As of the 2000 census , Fayette County had 25,588 people in 10,199 households and 7,149 families. The population density was 46 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.16 percent white, 1.67 percent African American, 0.09 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.13 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.66 percent were descended from two or more races.
