Miami County is a county in the US state of Indiana . The county seat is in Peru .

The county is located in north-central Indiana and has an area of ​​977 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Fulton County , Wabash County , Grant County , Howard County, and Cass County .

history

Miami County was formed on February 2, 1832 from parts of Cass County. It was named after the Miami Indians.

In Miami County there is a National Historic Landmark , the Wallace Circus Winter Headquarters . A total of 14 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 2, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Miami County had 36,082 people in 13,716 households and 9,806 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.69 percent white, 3.00 percent African American, 1.08 percent Native American, 0.33 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.46 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.42 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.32 percent of the population.
