Hamilton County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Noblesville .

The county is located just north of the geographic center of Indiana and has an area of 1,043 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Tipton County , Madison County , Hancock County , Marion County , Boone County, and Clinton County .

history

Hamilton County was formed on January 8, 1823 from parts of Marion County and Free Territory. It was named after Alexander Hamilton , a US politician and the first US Treasury Secretary.

According to the 2000 census , Hamilton County had 182,740 people in 65,933 households and 50,834 families. The population density was 177 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.38 percent white, 1.54 percent African American, 0.17 percent Native American, 2.44 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.54 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.90 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.59 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 65,933 households, 43.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 67.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.0 percent were single mothers, and 22.9 percent were non-families. 18.6 percent were single households and 5.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.16.

30.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 5.6 percent between 18 and 24, 34.9 percent between 25 and 44 years. 21.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 7.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 93.5 men.

The median income for a household in the 71,026 USD , and the median income for a family 80,239 USD. Males had a median income of $ 56,638 versus $ 34,807 for females. The per capita income was $ 33,109. 2.0 percent of families and 2.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
