Johnson County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Franklin .

The county is located just south of the geographic center of Indiana and covers an area of 833 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Marion County , Shelby County , Bartholomew County , Monroe County, and Morgan Counties .
history
Johnson County was formed as the original Free Territory county on December 31, 1822. It was named after John Johnson , an early Justice on the Indiana Supreme Court.

According to the 2000 census , Johnson County had 115,209 people in 42,434 households and 31,613 families. The population density was 139 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.04 percent white, 0.79 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.84 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.48 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.65 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.38 percent of the population.
Of the 42,434 households, 37.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 62.0 percent were married couples living together, 9.0 percent were single mothers, and 25.5 percent were non-families. 21.2 percent were single households and 7.3 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.06.
27.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24, 30.8 percent between 25 and 44 years old. 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 92.8 men.
The median income for a household in the county was US $ 52,693 and the median income for a family was US $ 60,571. Males had a median income of US $ 42,272 and females US $ 28,181. The per capita income was US $ 22,976. 3.3 percent of families and 5.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
