Johnson County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Franklin .

The county is located just south of the geographic center of Indiana and covers an area of ​​833 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Marion County , Shelby County , Bartholomew County , Monroe County, and Morgan Counties .

history

Johnson County was formed as the original Free Territory county on December 31, 1822. It was named after John Johnson , an early Justice on the Indiana Supreme Court.

According to the 2000 census , Johnson County had 115,209 people in 42,434 households and 31,613 families. The population density was 139 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.04 percent white, 0.79 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.84 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.48 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.65 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the county was US $ 52,693 and the median income for a family was US $ 60,571. Males had a median income of US $ 42,272 and females US $ 28,181.
