Dubois County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Jasper .

The county is located in southwest Indiana, about 45 km south of Kentucky , and has an area of ​​1,127 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Martin County , Orange County , Crawford County , Perry County , Spencer County , Warrick County , Pike County, and Daviess County .

history

Dubois County was formed on December 20, 1817 from parts of Pike County. It was named after Toussaint Dubois , a captain in the War of 1812 and the Battle of Tippecanoe .

According to the 2000 census , Dubois County had 39,674 people in 14,813 households and 10,739 families. The population density was 36 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.54 percent white, 0.14 percent African American, 0.10 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.51 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.47 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.78 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
