Boone County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Lebanon .
geography
The county is located just west of the geographic center of Indiana and covers an area of 1,096 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Clinton County , Hamilton County , Marion County , Hendricks County, and Montgomery Counties .
history
Boone County was formed on January 29, 1830 from parts of Hendricks County and Marion County. It was named after Daniel Boone , an American pioneer and border guard who opened up the so-called Wilderness Trail and founded the town of Boonesborough in Kentucky .

According to the 2000 census , Boone County had 46,107 people in 17,081 households and 12,810 families. The population density was 42 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.92 percent white, 0.35 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.46 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.40 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.60 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.16 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 17,081 households, 38% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.4 percent were married couples living together, 7.8 percent were single mothers, and 25% were non-families. 21.1 percent were single households and 8.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.09.
28.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.3 percent between 18 and 24, 30.2 percent between 25 and 44 years. 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 90.9 men.
The median income for a household in the 49,632 USD , and the median income for a family 58,879 USD. Males had a median income of $ 39,534 versus $ 26,266 for females. The per capita income was $ 24,182. 3.8 percent of families and 5.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
