The Vanderburgh County is a county in the US state of Indiana . In 2010 , the county had 179,703 residents and a population density of 295.6 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Evansville .

geography

history

Vanderburgh County was formed on January 7, 1818 from parts of Gibson County, Posey County and Warrick County. It was named after William Henry Vanderburgh (1760-1812), an officer of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and later judge in Indiana  -  territory .

Vanderburgh County has a National Historic Landmark , the Angel Mounds . A total of 95 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 4, 2017).

According to the 2010 census , Vanderburgh County had 179,703 people in 72,843 households. The population density was 295.6 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 86.2 percent white, 9.1 percent African American , 0.2 percent Native American , 1.1 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 2.2 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Statistically, 2.31 people lived in each of the 72,843 households.

22.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 63.4 percent were between 18 and 64 and 14.4 percent were 65 years or older. 51.8 percent of the population was female.
