The county is located in southeast Indiana, borders Ohio to the east and has an area of ​​1014 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Fayette County , Union County , Butler County, and Hamilton Counties in Ohio, Dearborn County , Ripley County , Decatur County, and Rush Counties .

Benjamin Franklin

Franklin County was formed on November 27, 1810 from parts of Clark County, Dearborn County, and Jefferson County. It was named after Benjamin Franklin , a North American publisher , statesman, writer , scientist , inventor , natural philosopher, and freemason .

In Rockdale is the historic Snow Hill Covered Bridge . The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 3, 1995 with the number 95000208. A total of 13 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 1, 2017).
