Butler County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Hamilton .

The county is located in southwest Ohio, borders Indiana to the west and has an area of ​​1,218 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Preble County , Montgomery County , Warren County , Hamilton County , Dearborn County (Indiana), Franklin County (Indiana), and Union County (Indiana).

history

Butler County was formed on March 24, 1803 from parts of Hamilton County. It was named after Richard Butler , a general in the American Revolutionary War .

Three places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , Langstroth Cottage , William H. McGuffey House, and John B. Tytus House . 85 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 6, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Butler County had 332,807 people in 123,082 households and 87,880 families. The population density was 275 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.20 percent white , 5.27 percent African American , 0.21 percent American Indian , 1.55 percent Asian American , 0.03 percent Pacific islander and 0.62 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.13 percent were descended from two or more races . 1.43 percent of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

Of the 123,082 households, 35.5 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.0 percent were married couples living together, 10.7 percent were single mothers, 28.6 percent were non-families, 22.7 percent were single households and 7.6 percent had people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.07.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.9 percent of residents under the age of 18, 11.9 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 10.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 92.2 men.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 47,885 , and the median income for a family was $ 57,513. Males had a median income of $ 42,052 versus $ 27,602 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,076. 5.4 percent of families and 8.7 percent of the population were below the poverty line. 9.1 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 7.0 percent were people over 65 years of age.
