Darke County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Greenville .

The county is located in western Ohio, bordering Indiana, and has an area of ​​1,555 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Mercer County , Shelby County , Miami County , Montgomery County , Preble County , Wayne County, Indiana, Randolph County (Indiana), and Jay County, Indiana.

history

Darke County was formed on January 3, 1809 from parts of Miami County. It was named after William Darke , an officer in the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War .
