Hocking County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Logan .

The county is located in south-central Ohio and has an area of ​​1,097 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Perry County , Athens County , Vinton County , Ross County , Pickaway County, and Fairfield County .

history

The McCarthy-Blosser-Dillon Building (2009) is one of twelve entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hocking County was formed on January 3, 1818 from parts of Athens, Fairfield and Ross Counties. It was named after the Hocking River that runs in this area.

Twelve structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 5, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , there were 28,241 people in 10,843 households and 7,828 families in Hocking County. The population density was 26 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.54 percent white, 0.92 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian and 0.08 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.09 percent were descended from two or more races. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 99.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 97.9 men.

The median income for a household in the 34,261 USD , and the median income for a family was 40,888 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,951 versus $ 24,123 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,095. 10.3 percent of families and 13.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 15.8 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 14.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
