Clermont County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Batavia .

The county is located almost in the extreme southwest of Ohio, borders Kentucky to the south and has an area of 1185 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Warren County , Clinton County , Brown County , Bracken County, Kentucky, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Campbell County, Kentucky, and Hamilton County .

Clermont County was formed on December 6, 1800 from parts of Hamilton County. It was named after the French city of Clermont-Ferrand , which was only called Clermont until the middle of the 18th century .

According to the 2000 census , Clermont County had 177,977 people in 66,013 households and 49,047 families. The population density was 152 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.13 percent white, 0.91 percent African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.63 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.26 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.86 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.87 percent of the population.
Of the 66,013 households, 38.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.4 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, 25.7 percent were non-families, 21.0 percent were single households and 7.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.11.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.9 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 31.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 9.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 93.6 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 49,386 , and the median income for a family was $ 57,032. Males had a median income of $ 40,739 versus $ 27,613 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,370. 5.3 percent of families and 7.1 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 8.7 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 7.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
