Wyandot County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Upper Sandusky .

geography

The county is located slightly west of north-central Ohio and has an area of ​​1,056 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Seneca County , Crawford County , Marion County , Hardin County, and Hancock Counties .

history

Wyandot County was formed on February 3, 1845 from parts of Crawford, Hancock, Hardin and Marion Counties. It was named after the North American Indian people the Wyandot (Hurons).

Ten buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of May 19, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Wyandot County had 22,908 people in 8,882 households and 6,270 families. The population density was 22 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.91 percent white, 0.14 percent African American, 0.08 percent Native American, 0.50 percent Asian and 0.74 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.62 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.46 percent of the population.

Of the 8,882 households, 33.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers, 29.4 percent were non-families, 25.4 percent were single households, and 11.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.03.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.8 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 92.5 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,839 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,173. Males had a median income of $ 31,716 versus $ 22,395 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,170. 3.8 percent of families and 5.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 5.2 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 5.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
