Summit County is a county in the US state of Ohio of the United States . The county seat is Akron .
geography
The county is located in northeast Ohio, about 35 km to the north from Lake Erie , the southernmost of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of 1,088 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cuyahoga County , Portage County , Stark County , Wayne County, and Medina Counties .
history
Summit County was formed on March 3, 1840 from parts of Medina, Portage and Stark Counties. It was named after the highest point on the Ohio-Erie Canal .
There are two National Historic Landmarks in the county that Dr. Robert and Anne Smith House and the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens . 165 buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of May 18, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Summit County had 542,899 people in 217,788 households and 144,611 families. The population density was 508 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.50 percent white, 13.19 percent African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 1.41 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.29 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.39 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.88 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 217,788 households, 30.7 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 50.1 percent were married couples living together, 12.6 percent were single mothers, 33.6 percent were non-families, 28.0 percent were single households, and 10.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.02.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.2 percent between the ages of 18 and 24, 29.6 percent between the ages of 25 and 44, and 23.0 percent between the ages of 45 and 64 14.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were statistically 89.3 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 42,304 , and the median income for a family is $ 52,200. Males had a median income of $ 40,117 versus $ 26,831 women. The per capita income was $ 22,842. 7.5 percent of families and 9.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 14.0 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 6.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
