Defiance County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Defiance .

The county is located almost in the extreme northwest of Ohio, borders Indiana to the west and has an area of ​​1073 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Williams County , Henry County , Putnam County , Paulding County , Allen County, Indiana, and De Kalb County, Indiana.

history

Defiance County was formed on March 4, 1845 from parts of Henry Paulding and Williams Counties. It was named after Fort Defiance , which was built nearby in 1794 at the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee Rivers .

Ten structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 13, 2018).

Defiance County's population was 39,500 as of the 2000 census . 605 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 15,138 households and 11,020 families.
