Franklin County is a county in the US state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Columbus , which is also the capital of Ohio.
geography
The county is located a few miles southwest of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of 1,407 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Delaware County , Licking County , Fairfield County , Pickaway County , Madison County, and Union County .
history
Franklin County was formed on March 30, 1803 from parts of Ross County. It was named after Benjamin Franklin , a North American publisher , statesman, writer , scientist , inventor , natural philosopher, and freemason . He is also considered to be one of the founding fathers of the United States .
Three places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , the Ohio Statehouse , the Ohio Theater, and the Captain Edward V. Rickenbacker House . 319 structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 13, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Franklin County had 1,068,978 people in 438,778 households and 263,705 families. The population density was 765 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 75.48 percent white, 17.89 percent African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 3.07 percent Asian, 0.04 percent from the Pacific island area and 1.03 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.23 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.27 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 438,778 households, 30.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 43.0 percent were married couples living together, 13.0 percent were single mothers, 39.9 percent were non-families, 30.9 percent were single households, and 7.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.03.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.1 percent of residents under the age of 18, 11.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 33.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 20.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 9.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 94.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 91.5 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 42,734 USD , and the median income for a family was 53,905 USD. Males had a median income of $ 37,672 versus $ 29,856 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,059. 8.2 percent of families and 11.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 14.2 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 8.6 percent were people over 65 years of age.
