Canal Winchester is a suburb of Columbus in the American state of Ohio . The place is an independent municipality (" Village ") and has almost 4500 inhabitants. ( 2000 census state .) Canal Winchester is located on the Ohio-Erie Canal in County Franklin .
Canal Winchester is home to a number of Grade I listed buildings that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). These include the oldest still operating school in Ohio, the Canal Winchester School built in 1862 , the Bergstresser Covered Bridge over Little Walnut Creek built in 1887 , the last remaining covered bridge in the county, the Methodist Church with its arched windows, built in 1908, and the historic town center Columbus Street Historic District .
