Byron James "BJ" Mullens (born February 14, 1989 in Canal Winchester , Ohio ) is a British - American basketball player .

Career

After graduating from high school , he went to Ohio State University to study , where he played basketball for the college team Buckeyes in the NCAA's Big Ten Conference . At the Buckeyes he came initially mainly as a reserve player from the bank, where he was able to achieve 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a freshman in his first and ultimately only college year . Afterwards he already registered for the entry draft of the highest endowed professional league NBA .

In the 2009 NBA Draft , he was selected in 24th place by the Dallas Mavericks , but their rights to him shortly thereafter exchanged for the rights to Rodrigue Beaubois , so that Mullens came to the Oklahoma City Thunder. With the Thunder, Mullens could not play in the rotation, so he was repeatedly posted to the Tulsa 66ers farm team in the NBA Development League (D-League) to gain match practice and experience that Mullens had in his short NCAA career could not collect. During the lockout in 2011, Mullens played three weeks for the Greek first division club Panionios Athens, but returned to his home country at the start of the European season in early October before the end of the lockout.

At the end of the lockout, Mullens was then transferred to the Charlotte Bobcats on December 19, 2011, where he received more game shares so that he could improve significantly. On April 6, 2012 Mullens set up personal career records with 31 points and 14 rebounds in the largely unsuccessful team. Mullens was able to improve his values in the 2012/13 season , but after 2 years Mullens left the Bobcats for the 2013/14 season and joined the Los Angeles Clippers . However, Mullens only played for the Clippers until February 2014. Shortly before the end of the transition period, Mullens came to the Philadelphia 76ers in a player swap .

After the end of the season, Mullens signed a contract with the Chinese Basketball Association for the Zhongyu from Shanxi in the summer of 2014 .

National team

Due to his British mother, Mullens is eligible to play for the UK national team. He was appointed to the squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics , but had to cancel due to an injury.
