NBA Draft 2009
The 2009 NBA Draft was conducted on June 25, 2009 at Madison Square Garden in New York City , New York . In two rounds, the 30 NBA teams were able to secure the rights to a total of 60 young players.
The final draft order for positions 1 to 14 was determined on May 19, 2009 by the draft lottery . The 14 teams that did not qualify for the playoffs in the 2008/09 season took part in this weighted lottery and were placed in the reverse order of the regular season table. The draw was won by the Los Angeles Clippers , followed by the Memphis Grizzlies and the Oklahoma City Thunder .
All players who wanted to register for the draft had to be born before December 31, 1990 regardless of their school leaving certificate. If they were not an "international player" they were also not allowed to register for at least one year after graduating from high school .
