Daniel Lorenzo Hackett (born December 19, 1987 in Forlimpopoli , Emilia-Romagna ) is an Italian basketball player . With Montepaschi Siena he won the Italian double from championship and cup competition in 2013 .

Career

Hackett is the son of former NBA player Rudy Hackett . Although he was born in Forlimpopoli, he grew up in Pesaro . He later attended St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California . He then went to study at the University of Southern California , where he played with the Trojans college team in the then Pacific 10 Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). His teammates at the time included the future NBA players OJ Mayo until 2008 and Taj Gibson , DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vučević , with whom he won the 2009 Pac-10 championship tournament. With the Trojans he took part in the national NCAA finals , with the furthest advance being reaching the last sixteen Sweet Sixteen 2007. After winning the championship in the Conference, Hackett signed up for the 2009 NBA Draft early after three years in which he was able to improve his personal statistics, but he was not selected. By registering for the draft he was unable to return to the NCAA, so he signed his first professional contract in his Italian homeland with five-time champions Benetton Treviso for the 2009/10 season.

With the former top European team from Treviso , Hackett retired as the main round eight in the first play-off round in 2010 against defending champions Montepaschi Siena. Since Hackett could not set the scene in Treviso as he had hoped, after a year he switched to his home club Scavolini from Pesaro, in whose youth teams he had been trained. After scavolini barely failed to make it into the play-offs in the first year as tenth in the table, they just won in 2012 as sixth in the first round against Bennet Cantù . In the play-off semi-finals, however, they lost to Armani Milan. For the following season 2012/13 Hackett switched to serial champion Montepaschi from Siena , with whom he again won the Italian championship at the end of the season and the national double in connection with winning the cup competition. In the play-off final series of the championship, Hackett was named " Most Valuable Player ". However, after the main sponsor's financial problems, the championship team fell apart. Hackett initially stayed in Siena, but the team missed the re-entry into the round of the best 16 teams in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2013/14 in the 2013/14 season , whereupon Hackett left the club at the end of the year. He moved to EA7 Emporio Armani in Milan , which was the only Italian team to make it into the round of the best 16 teams. There he played again with his former teammates David J. Moss and Kristjan Kangur , with whom he had won the championship in Siena the previous season.

In the summer of 2015 he announced his move to Olympiakos , where he should replace the departed Kostas Sloukas in the position of playmaker.

In the 2017/18 season, Hackett was in the squad of the reigning German champions Brose Bamberg , which he left after one season due to missing the EuroLeague and an impending upheaval in the club. He then joined the Russian top club CSKA Moscow and signed a two-year contract.
