Nikola Vučević ( Serbian - Cyrillic Никола Вучевић ; born October 24, 1990 in Morges , Switzerland ) is a Montenegrin basketball player who has been under contract with the Orlando Magic in the US professional league NBA since 2012 . Vučević was selected in the 2011 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and transferred to Magic after a year. During his time in Orlando, Vučević was once an NBA All-Star .

Career

High school

Vučević grew up mainly in Belgium , where his father Borislav Vučević was active as a basketball player at the time. When he was 17 he went to the United States. In his only year of high school, Vučević averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Stoneridge Prep in Simi Valley , California . He led his team in points and rebounds and was team captain at the same time .

college

Vučević played for the Trojans of the University of Southern California for three years .

After a rather slow start in his first year, Vučević became the best rebounder in his second year with 9.7 rebounds per game and the second best scorer of the Trojans with 10.7 points per game . He also led the Pac-10 Conference with 283 rebounds and was voted “Most Improved Player 2009/10” ​​of the Pac-10. In his junior year, Vučević was elected to the Pac-10 First Team and in March 2011 he announced that he would sign up for the NBA Draft .

Philadelphia 76ers

Vučević was drafted in 16th place by the Philadelphia 76ers . On February 4, 2012, he scored his then high of 15 points in a game against the Atlanta Hawks . On August 10, 2012, he was traded to Orlando Magic in a swap that included players such as Dwight Howard , Andrew Bynum and Andre Iguodala .

Orlando Magic

On December 31, 2012, Vučević set a historic team record for the Orlando Magic with 29 rebounds in one game. Vučević finished the season greatly improved with 13.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. National team

With the selection of Montenegro , Vučević took part in the European Championships in 2011 and 2013 . According to his own statement, however, he will no longer appear for the national team under coach Luka Pavićević .
