Luka Pavićević ( Serbian - Cyrillic Лука Павићевић ; born June 17, 1968 in Titograd , SR Montenegro ) is a Montenegrin basketball coach and former player. As a player, Pavićević won the European Cup three times as well as four national championships in Yugoslavia and one in Finland . As a coach he was once German champion with Alba Berlin and with this club he was able to reach the final of the second highest European club competition ULEB Eurocup . In addition to Serbian junior selection teams, with which he won the title at the Universiade 2011, among other things , he trained the Montenegrin men's selection for more than two years . Pavićević was most recently the club coach of the Montenegrin double winner KK Budućnost Podgorica until March 2016 .

Career

During his playing days, Pavićević was the playmaker of the legendary Jugoplastika Split team that won the European Cup three times between 1989 and 1991 . This team also included the future NBA star Toni Kukoč .

From 2007 to 2011 he trained the multiple German champion Alba Berlin , with whom he was able to celebrate the German championship in 2008 in the first year of his activity and thus brought this title back to Berlin for the first time in five years . At the same time, winning the German championship with Alba Berlin was his first title as a club coach. A year later Pavićević won the German Cup competition with Alba in 2009, but lost the play-off semi-final series in the 2008/09 basketball league just against the cup finalists Telekom Baskets Bonn . After Alba in the highest ranked European club competition Euro League 2008/09 was the first time since the introduction of this competition in 2000, reached the second round of the 16 best teams, you put in the Eurocup 2009/10 even down to the final game, which, however, clearly against Power Electronics Valencia was lost . After the professional team had not won a national title that season, the team stagnated in the basketball Bundesliga 2010/11 and before the turn of the year suffered the highest defeat in their first division history with reigning German champions Brose Baskets with 52: 103 and 51 points Difference. A good four weeks later on January 21, 2011, Alba Berlin put him on leave from his position as head coach.

In the following summer of 2011, Pavićević first trained the Serbian student selection to win the title at the Summer Universiade 2011 in Shenzhen , before becoming the coach of Chorale Roanne in the French LNB Pro A in November 2011 . One month later, at the end of the year, he also took over the vacant position as national coach of the Montenegrin men's selection . With the national team, Pavićević was able to confidently qualify for the final tournament of the 2013 European Championship , in which, however, they were eliminated again after the preliminary round. Chorale Roanne had initially led Pavićević twice in the play-offs for the French championship, in which, however, they were eliminated in the first round. In the LNB Pro A 2013/14 he and the team occupied the penultimate place in the table after only six wins of the season, which meant relegation to the LNB Pro B division. After Pavićević had surprisingly failed in the European Championship qualification with Montenegro in the summer of 2014, he had to vacate his position as club coach as well as national coach.

At the end of November 2015, Pavićević took over the position of head coach of the Montenegrin double winner and serial champion KK Budućnost in his native Podgorica from his predecessor Igor Jovović. Pavićević could not prevent the elimination after the first group stage of the Eurocup 2015/16 , but he defended the title in the national cup competition in 2016. In the supranational ABA league 2015/16 , the team even went first in the main round in front of the defending champions and after only three defeats Euroligist KK Roter Stern Belgrade entered the play-offs. Here, however, they lost in the semi-final series in two games against outsider Mega Leks , whereupon Pavićević 'was resolved with immediate effect.

In June 2017 Pavićević became head coach of Alvark Tokyo , a team in the Japanese B.League . With him as head coach, Alvark Tokyo has twice won the championship title in the Japanese B.League (2017/18, 2018/19).
