The Ligue Nationale de Basket ( LNB ) is the top division in French club basketball for men. The French men's basketball championship is played in the LNB .
The LNB was founded in 1987 and is divided into two divisions ( divisions ): The Pro A (first division) and the Pro B (second division). French basketball championships have been held since 1921.
history
On June 27, 1987, the Comité des Clubs de Haut Ebene was founded with the aim of establishing two professional divisions for the 1987/88 season. The Comité included all clubs of the two highest leagues at the time, National 1A and National 1B . The Comité was replaced on November 24, 1990 by the Ligue Nationale de Basket .
For the 1992/93 season, the two professional leagues were renamed National A1 and National A2 . The names were changed again in the following season. Since then, the names of the divisions Pro A and Pro B .
Per A
mode
18 teams take part in the league and each play two games against each other in the regular season. The eight best-placed teams will play in the playoffs for the French championship after the regular season . The two placed by the end of the regular season the worst teams get into the Pro B from.
The playoffs are currently played according to the best-of-three (quarter-finals) or best-of-five mode (semi-finals and finals). The winner bears the title of French champion and is directly qualified for the ULEB Euroleague .

Pro B
mode
18 teams take part in the league and each play two games against each other in the regular season. The eight best-placed teams play for the regular season to the playoffs (quarterfinals and semifinals respectively 2 Games, Final Game 1) to move up to the Pro A . The master and the runner-up move up. The two worst-placed teams after the regular season are relegated to the amateur league Nationale 1 .

All-Star Game & Leaders Cup
Besides the championships in Pro A and Pro B, the LNB organizes two other important events every year: the All-Star Game and the Leaders Cup.
In the All-Star Game , a selection of the best French players meets a selection of the best foreign players. The All-Star Game has been held in December (Sunday between Christmas and New Years) in the AccorHotels Arena in Paris since 2002 . In 1987 the first All-Star Game of the LNB was played, at that time still in the mode east against west (until 1992).
The Leaders Cup (formerly Semaine des As , Tournois des As ) is a tournament in which the first eight teams of the first half of the season are allowed to participate (Pro A). Since 2013 the Leaderscup has been held on a weekend in February. The games will be played as direct elimination games in the Disney Events Arena at Disneyland Paris .
