The Salle de la Meilleraie is a multi-purpose hall in the French city of Cholet , Maine-et-Loire department . It is part of the Parc des Expositions Meilleraie exhibition grounds . The basketball team of Cholet Basket bear its home games in 1987 opened hall. The hall offers 5,191 seats for basketball games. The arena is nicknamed La Meilleraie and Le Hangar .
Cholet Basket has been playing its games there since it opened. In 2009, the parquet floor was renewed for € 200,000 , two video display boards were installed, electronic advertising boards were set up and the timing system was renewed. In the following year, the hall was upgraded for the ULEB Euroleague with financial help from the city of € 275,000 . Cholet Basket qualified for the French championship in 2010.
The Salle de la Meilleraie is no longer up-to-date with its facilities and size. In 2005 the plans for a new building were rejected. The city questioned the profitability of the construction. Winning the French championship in 2010 got the project rolling again. The construction of a new hall is planned. Mainly it will be used by the Cholet Basket; But it should also be usable for concerts or other events. Depending on the configuration, the hall should be designed for 5,000 to 8,000 visitors. Expected costs of € 12 to 15 million. Completion is scheduled for 2015. We are still looking for a location for the new hall.
