The Stade Pierre de Coubertin is a multi-purpose hall in the 16th arrondissement of the French capital Paris and bears the name of Pierre de Coubertin , the founder of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is the home ground of the Paris-Levallois Basket basketball club and the handball players of Paris Saint-Germain . The women's handball team Paris 92 from Issy-les-Moulineaux mainly plays in the Palais des Sports Robert-Charpentier with 1,500 seats. Occasionally you switch to the larger hall. The multi-purpose hall currently offers space for 4,016 spectators (3,402 seats) for basketball or handball games. At boxing events there are a total of 4,836 seats with the seats on the ring.

history

The hall was opened in 1937 on the occasion of the world exhibition and rebuilt in 1946 after the Second World War . Many large boxing matches were held there in the 1950s and 60s. Various sporting events such as judo , boxing , karate , badminton , fencing , dancing , tennis , artistic gymnastics , basketball and handball have taken place in the hall over the years. In 1971 the Masters Grand Prix stopped at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin. The Romanian Ilie Năstase won the season finale in tennis. In 1990 the hall was renovated and adapted to international standards. The women's tennis tournament Open GDF Suez was held in the hall from 1993 to 2014 before it was moved to Antwerp .
