The WTA Antwerp (officially: BNP Paribas Fortis Diamond Games ) was a tennis tournament of the WTA Tour that was held in Antwerp . Up to and including 2001 it was a clay court tournament; In 2002 and 2003 the game was played on carpeting, then on hard courts.
From 2002 the tournament, which was held in the Sportpaleis at the beginning of February , offered a very special trophy . If a player succeeded in winning three tournaments within five years, she received a gold tennis racket decorated with diamonds . After her two victories in 2002 and 2003, Venus Williams had the best chance of winning the extra prize in 2005, but she lost the final to Amélie Mauresmo . With her title win, which she successfully defended in 2006 and 2007, the Frenchwoman then secured this unique trophy. In 2006 and 2007 she defeated Kim Clijsters , who was the only player in the final four times, but could only win the tournament once.
After seven years of abstinence, the 2015 tournament returned to the tournament calendar with its old place of work.
