The WTA Zhengzhou (officially: Zhengzhou Open ) is a tennis tournament of the Women's Tennis Association on the WTA Tour from 2019 , which will be held in the city of Zhengzhou in the People's Republic of China .

history

The tournament was founded in 2014 and was held as an ITF tournament until 2016 . In 2017 and 2018, the event was one under the name Biyuan Zhengzhou Women's Tennis Open of WTA Challenger Series on. After the organizers in New Haven decided not to continue hosting the Premier category tournament, which will take place there until 2018, for financial reasons , Zhengzhou was awarded the WTA. The prize money is $ 1 million in 2019, and according to the organizers, it should be $ 1.5 million from 2020. In addition, a new stadium with a capacity of 8,000 spectators should be completed by the start of the tournament in September 2020.
