Yanina Wickmayer (born October 20, 1989 in Lier ) is a Belgian tennis player .

Career

Wickmayer, who started tennis at the age of nine, has been a professional player since 2004. She has won five singles and two doubles titles on the WTA Tour so far; there is also a single title at a WTA Challenger tournament. At ITF tournaments she recorded 11 singles and 12 doubles titles.

Wickmayer has been playing for the Belgian Fed Cup team since 2007 ; Their record so far shows 26 wins out of 13 defeats.

2009

Wickmayer ended her best season to date in 18th place in the WTA world rankings . She won the tournaments of Estoril (final victory over Jekaterina Makarowa ) and Linz (against Petra Kvitová ). But she celebrated her greatest success when she made it to the semifinals of the US Open , in which she was defeated by Caroline Wozniacki in two sets. She was also in the final of 's-Hertogenbosch , which she lost to Tamarine Tanasugarn in straight sets.

The Belgian Anti-Doping Tribunal imposed a one-year ban on Wickmayer and her compatriot Xavier Malisse on November 5, 2009. In three cases, both had failed to inform the national anti-doping authority of their whereabouts in good time. On December 14, a civil court lifted the ban.

2010

Wickmayer was able to build on its successes from the previous year. She won the Auckland final with a final victory over Flavia Pennetta . At the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne , she reached the second round (three-set defeat against her compatriot Justine Henin ) and at the US Open (three-set defeat against Estonian Kaia Kanepi ). At the French Open (two-set defeat against Daniela Hantuchová ) and in Wimbledon (defeat against Wera Swonarjowa ) she was eliminated in the third round. In Miami (Category: Premier Mandatory) and Cincinnati (Category: Premier 5) came the end against Marion Bartoli and the unseeded Anastassija Pavlyuchenkova each in the quarter-finals. On April 19, she reached her best world ranking position to date with 12th place.

2011 to 2013

In 2011 Wickmayer was only once in a final, as defending champion in Auckland. In 2012 she reached the finals in Hobart (two-set defeat against Mona Barthel ) and in Bad Gastein, where she lost to French Alizé Cornet 5: 7 and 6: 7 1 . At Wimbledon, she lost in three sets against Tamira Paszek in round three . At the Australian Open she reached the third round in 2013, at the other Grand Slam tournaments she did not get beyond the opening round. In October, she achieved her only double success on the WTA Tour in Luxembourg alongside Stephanie Vogt from Liechtenstein.

Since 2014

In 2014 she was in the second round in Melbourne, Paris and Wimbledon, in New York she did not get past the first round again. In 2015 she made it into the round of 16 at the Australian Open again (straight two-set defeat against Simona Halep ). She celebrated successes in Tokyo in September , where she won her fourth WTA singles title, and at the Challenger tournament in Carlsbad , where she defeated the American Nicole Gibbs in the final . In February 2016 she reached the semi-finals at the Acapulco WTA tournament , where she lost to Sloane Stephens 2: 6, 0: 6.
