Petra Cetkovská (born February 8, 1985 in Prostějov , then Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech tennis player .

Career

Cetkovská was introduced to tennis by her father at the age of five.

One of the outstanding results of her early days was her victory at the U14 European Championships . From 2000 she competed in ITF tournaments. In the same year she won her first double title, followed the following year by the first ITF single title. From November 2001 to February 2008 she played four games (one win in doubles) for the Czech Fed Cup team .

In 2007 she reached a main field on the WTA Tour for the first time in Tashkent . In the same year she won her first WTA title in doubles, in the final in Prague she and her compatriot Andrea Hlaváčková defeated the duo Ji Chunmei / Sun Shengnan 7: 6, 7 and 6: 2.

In 2011 she achieved her best result in a Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon . With wins over Agnieszka Radwańska and Ana Ivanović , she moved into the round of 16, in which she was defeated by the later semi-finalist Sabine Lisicki . On October 24, 2011, Cetkovská reached a new record with rank 30 in the WTA ranking. She had previously reached the final of a WTA tournament twice in a row; she lost in Palermo on clay to Anabel Medina Garrigues and in Pétange on hard court Mathilde Johansson with 5: 7 and 3: 6 respectively. Even in New Haven , when they reached the final for the third time in 2011, the first single title on the tour did not work out; she was defeated there in the final of world number one Caroline Wozniacki with 4: 6, 1: 6.

In 2012 she achieved good results in the individual, especially on clay. After reaching the quarter-finals twice ( Fès , Estoril ) and three times the round of 16 (Barcelona, Madrid, Rome), after the French Open , where she reached the second round, she climbed to 25th place in the world on June 18 , her best ranking so far. In 2012 she also won her second WTA title in doubles alongside Alexandra Panowa in Fez .

After taking part in the Olympic Games in London, she played two ITF tournaments. From the beginning of November 2012 to mid-May 2013 Cetkovská did not play a single tournament, so that she slipped far in the world rankings. In preparation for the French Open , in which she then reached the third round, she returned to the tour at the clay court tournament in Strasbourg . At the end of the 2014 season, she finished in world rankings 59 (singles) and 160 (doubles). After the US Open , where she was eliminated in round two, she did not appear again for half a year. In Miami and Key Biscayne , she was eliminated in the first round in 2015. In August she succeeded in winning her 23rd individual title at an ITF tournament in Poland.

She completed her last match on the women's tour in July 2016 at an ITF tournament in her Czech homeland.
