Lindsay Lee-Waters (* 28. June 1977 as Lindsay Lee in Oklahoma City ) is a former American tennis player .

Career

Lee made his first appearance at the ITF Women's Circuit in 1994 and made two finals in $ 10,000 tournaments. She won her first title in Woodlands in January 1995, and won the Miami $ 25,000 tournament in late February . The first WTA final she reached in May of the same year in Bournemouth , which she lost to the Canadian Patricia Hy-Boulais . In Wimbledon she reached the second round after qualifying, she lost in three sets against Natallja Swerawa . After reaching the round of 16 in San Diego , Lee was in the top 100 for the first time in the summer. At the end of the year, she was able to reach the quarter-finals and the semi-finals in Leipzig and Québec .

In 1996 she lost the final of a $ 50,000 tournament to Anna Kurnikowa . In Indian Wells she reached the quarter-finals and then with position 33 in the WTA world rankings, her best placement so far. Due to injuries, she slipped out of the top 100 at the end of the year; she only returned there in May 2004. Lee married her trainer Heath Waters that same year and has had a double name since then. In early 2001 she gave birth to her first child.

At the Australian Open in 2005, she enjoyed her second round game against Maria Sharapova , which she lost in three sets, great popularity with the audience. While Sharapova was partially booed after wrong decisions in her favor, there were standing ovations for Lee-Waters after the match.

In 2006 Lee-Waters gave birth to her second child and fell back to 943 in the world rankings. In 2009 she was back in the top 200 after winning the $ 50,000 Charlottesville tournament (her first tournament win since 2005) and the Raleigh final (also a $ 50,000 tournament).

In 2010 she was unable to win a match on the WTA Tour or ITF tournaments until the end of April. It wasn't until Charlottesville , where she started as the defending champion, that she won her first match of the season. She achieved the greatest success in May with the finals at the $ 50,000 tournament in Raleigh and in September at the $ 75,000 tournament in Albuquerque . In doubles, she won the title there with Megan Moulton-Levy .

In 2011 Lee-Waters only played a few tournaments in singles, so that she lost many points in the individual world rankings. The greatest success she achieved with a victory over Arantxa Rus in the Wimbledon qualification. In doubles, she reached the semi-finals in Bogota and Quebec .

At the beginning of 2012, she was only on place 404 in the singles. She concentrated on the doubles competitions and together with Megan Moulton-Levy she won the ITF tournament in Osprey at the end of March . On the way to the title they defeated the top seeded pairing Natalie Grandin / Vladimíra Uhlířová . As in 2011, Lee-Waters and Moulton-Levy survived qualification at Wimbledon ; they then lost in round one to Carla Suárez Navarro and Lourdes Domínguez Lino in three sets. In Carlsbad they were eliminated in the quarterfinals against the 3 seeded duo Abigail Spears and Raquel Kops-Jones . In Washington they also failed in the quarterfinals, in Montreal in round one.

At the tournament in New Haven , Lee-Waters / Moulton-Levy made it to the semi-finals. It was their first semifinal on the WTA Tour since Québec in 2011. At the US Open , the duo failed in round one to Serena and Venus Williams .

In Memphis , they played through to the semi-finals in 2013. On February 26, 2013 Lee-Waters achieved her best double ranking to date with 85th place.

From May 2013 to June 2014, she did not play a match on the women's tour. Since March 2015 she has only competed in singles and only in ITF tournaments; in February 2016 she was able to assert herself again in a qualification for the first time. In October 2017 she played her last qualifying round so far.
