Los Gatos is a city in Santa Clara County in the US state of California with around 29,400 inhabitants (as of 2010). The urban area covers an area of 28.903 square kilometers. Los Gatos is about 15 kilometers as the crow flies south of the city of San José , with which it connects several roads.
history
The city was founded in 1850 as "cat city" ( Spanish Los Gatos , the cats'). It owes its name to the wild cats that used to be native to this region. Before the start of the Second World War , Los Gatos was a fruit-growing area. The software companies Audible Magic and Cryptic Studios as well as the streaming provider Netflix have their headquarters in Los Gatos.
Demographics
The 2010 census showed a population of 29,413. The population grew slightly compared to the year 2000, when just under 28,600 people lived in the city. The ethnic distribution of the population showed that a majority of 81 percent were white. The proportion of Hispanics ( Latinos ) was around seven percent, which is low in comparison to California. Afro-Americans and citizens of Asian descent were minorities according to the census, with a share of about one percent each. The number of households was 12,355. For every 100 women there were 92 men.
