Dredg is an American, some experimental alternative rock - / progressive rock - band . It was founded in 1993 in the San Francisco Bay Area .

Band history

Dredg made a name for himself through numerous appearances in their hometown of Los Gatos and various demos . The most famous demos are the Conscious - and Orph - EPs . While Conscious is still very much influenced by Sepultura and Rap , Orph shows the progressive direction in which the self-produced album leitmotif will go: Modern alternative / progressive music with world music influences.

The members of the band, especially bassist Drew Roulette , also work as painters . The long player El Cielo , released in 2002, was inspired by Salvador Dalí's painting Dream, caused by the flight of a bee around a pomegranate one second before waking up , and is thematically about lucid dreams . Both thematically and musically much more complex than its predecessor, the Interscope debut album offers a crystal clear sound, recorded on the Skywalker Ranch . With a wide range of guest musicians like Azam Ali , it is possible to push new boundaries without putting rock music in the background.

With the album Catch Without Arms from 2005, the Americans refrained from experimenting and being top-heavy. You can also find a concept on this album, but it is not quite as complex as that of its predecessor. The album deals with different reciprocities in life and therefore seems to be a very personal album in the band's history. Topics such as alcohol problems and love are addressed, but also self-criticism and dealing with this album (see title track Catch Without Arms ) seem to be important to the band.

The band's fourth album, called The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion , was released on May 29, 2009 after several delays. As singer Gavin Hayes reported in interviews, the lyrics on the 18-track album are strongly influenced by Salman Rushdie's essay “A letter to the 6 billionth person ”. The album was produced by Matt Radosevich . The album is divided into ten regular songs, four instrumental pieces and four spoken pieces, called Vocaludes by the band. The first release from the album is the title Information , which was originally written for the film Waterborne .

On January 24, 2011, the band announced on Twitter that they were recording their fifth album. They will work with producer Daniel “The Automatic” M. Nakamura ( Kasabian , Head Automatica , Gorillaz ) in a studio in San Francisco . The album title Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy was announced on February 18, 2011. It will be officially released between April 25th and 29th 2011 in different parts of Europe and on May 3rd in the USA on the Superball Music label. The album received average to good reviews beforehand.
