Azam Ali ( listen ? / I PersianAudio file / audio sample اعظم علی, DMG Aʿẓam ʿAlī ; * 1970 in Tehran , Iran ) is a singer of Iranian descent living in Canada .

biography

Azam was born in Tehran in 1970 , but moved with her family to Panchgani, India, at the age of four . As a result, she was heavily influenced by Indian culture and music.

The 1979 Islamic Revolution changed the lives of many Iranian families, including the Alis. In 1985, Azam was a teenager, her mother decided not to return to her home country. Instead, they moved together to the USA , to California . Azam now lives in Montreal , Canada .

Azam has worked with many different artists and film composers in her career ; Among others with: Serj Tankian (from System of a Down ), Dredg , The Crystal Method , Juno Reactor , Buckethead , the film composer Tyler Bates (currently for the film 300 ) and Jeff Rona , Kodo and Mickey Hart .

Projects

In addition to her solo career, Azam Ali has also realized various projects with other artists ( see biography ). The band projects “Vas” and “Niyaz” have earned her a lot of international critical acclaim. Vas played "Alternative World Music" and, in addition to Azam Ali as a singer, also consisted of the American drummer Greg Ellis. Vas is often compared to the Australian band Dead Can Dance . Niyaz is a cooperation with top Deejay , music programmer / producer and remixer Carmen Rizzo and Loga Ramin Torkian from the crossover band Axiom of Choice, which is popular in Iran . Azam Ali is currently working with Tyler Bates on the Roseland project.
