The Lunda sleeper is one of the five great African sleepers . It is located in the north of Angola and in the west of Zambia in southern Africa and rises up to 1500 m high.

In the north the threshold merges into the extensive Congo Basin and in the northeast into the Mitumba Mountains . In the east, the Muchinga Mountains join and the Central African Threshold ; therefore this mountain range is sometimes referred to as part of one threshold or sometimes as part of the other threshold. To the south the terrain slopes down over the valley of the Zambezi to the Okawango Basin . In the southwest and west, the Lundaschwelle merges into the Bié highlands .
